Three words to describe yourselves:
"sleepy, laid back and refined" - Seb and Brian
Their wedding was held at this really cool little place in Fullerton called Villa del Sol. They had a beautiful western wedding in the courtyard followed by a traditional Korean wedding ceremony on the mezzanine. Definitely very laid back and refined, but for claiming to be sleepy, they got pretty crazy on the dance floor that evening!

A very anticipated wedding for us as we loved their engagement session so much. What a great couple... Julia is a high school english teacher (crazy, I know, but she is so well suited for the job) and Jordan is a movie producer (even crazier, but suited for the job as well!) Jordan's work has taken him to Michigan, so the last time they saw each other was their engagement session. As hard as it must have been for the both of them, it made their day even more special as they really truly missed each other. The ceremony was held under a huge oak tree at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. They had a puppet show of the Missing Piece and the Big O by Sheil Silverstein and the best father daughter dance we have ever seen! But overall, our absolute favorite part of the day was our midnight photo session with Julia, Jordan, Miles and Rosie.

I tried to do the thing where you login to comment and it didn't work...ANYWAY.
Here's my REAL point: What you guys do is incredibly important, I can't imagine the pressure - and you make it look so easy and you do it so well. You captured one of the most important days of our lives better than we ever could have imagined. You guys are so special and we are so grateful for the beautiful and irreverent work that you do. THANK YOU!

Betty and Troy were married in the most gorgeous Napa Valley wedding venue, Montington Vineyards. The two have quite the penchant for all things Lord of the Rings which was a connection we made back when they first booked us. At that time, we were working from our office in New Zealand. The two mapped out their venue and the surrounds of the Bay Area in the style of J.R.R. Tolkien's map of Middle Earth. We were sad not to see any hobbits - but the day, and our journey up to the lovely Napa Valley (which reminded us a lot of several of our favorite NZ locations) very memorable.

I guess every wedding has disasters... Nicole and Matt had some really horrible things happen leading up to the wedding that would make anyone consider putting it off. One of which was his best man getting in a pretty serious accident and landing him self in the hospital the week before (he didn't attend as the best man, but was fortunately able to be there, wheel chair and all, to see the wedding). So as you can imagine, things were pretty emotional leading up to the wedding.
As if that wasn't enough, the day was filled with many small disasters, of which I will name a few. First, the zipper on Nicole's beautiful hand made dress (by his Grandmother) split just as she was getting into it. She was sewen into the dress just minutes before the wedding. Then, the song that was played when they came down the aisle as man and wife was the Imperial March from Star Wars. We thought it was a little bit odd, but pretty cool... come to find out later that it was actually supposed to be the Star Wars Love Song. Darth Vader's Theme was not quite the feel they were going for. Her bride's maid tripped and nearly knocked over the cake... Grandma fell during the reception, the list goes on...
I am sorry Nicole and Matt for bringing this up - but I do think that it says a lot about who you are and your relationship together to be able to deal with everything thrown at you and still have a wonderful day.
I saw this quote on a shampoo bottle and thought of you...
how you climb up the mountain is just as important as how you get down the mountain.
and, so it is with life,
which for many of us becomes one big gigantic lesson.
in the end, it all comes down to one word:
grace.
it's how you accept winning & losing,
good luck & bad luck,
darkness & light.
Nicole, that was a moment in our wedding photography that I will never forget... I think you looked absolutely gorgeous, with so much emotion on your face, standing there in the middle of the room with everyone fussing around you. When everything in the world at that moment was going wrong... you still had grace.

Gorgeous images, guys. This wedding seems so very elegant, warm and intimate. I hope it's all the joyous,love-filled moments that they remember! But yes, I laughed out loud at the Darth Vader thing. I would have been giggling my way down the aisle!

We met Liz and Ryan at the Santa Monica Pier for their engagement session back in July. We have been looking forward to their wedding ever since! It was held at my new favorite location, Rancho del Cielo (I told Dennis when we left, if we had to do it all over again, I would do it there!) There is a small cottage on the property, which is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The whole property is perched on a mountain overlooking the whole of Malibu and out to the ocean. It is a private estate and the owners are photographers... they have the most amazing and inspiring photos all over the walls. They even have a darkroom on site!
It was the perfect location for Liz and Ryan, elegant yet casual and absolutely stunning. Their wedding was intimate with many cute little details. They had popcorn boxes for the table settings - the guest's name and table number on the front and a photo from their engagement session on the back. It was so cool to see our photos there... and they went perfectly with the popcorn boxes (it makes sense if you see the photos). For dinner, they had a casual gourmet BBQ. After everyone was stuffed full, they gathered on the edge of the property to watch the sun dip down behind the sea, and the night finished up with an ice cream sundae bar (instead of a cake) and some serious boogying down...

Hi Jaime and Dennis!! Sorry it has taken so long to comment here, I've been so taken aback by these amazing photos that I've just now gotten the chance : )
What can we say?? We love every single one and this is just the sneak peak. You've captured everyone's personalities so well and you've really told the story of our day. We love the last pic of us gettin' down, and I love the photo of my back with the lace detail and my hair. Thank you for all of your kind words in the intro as well. We loved our wedding, it was even better than we had imagined!!
One of our friends said, " Your photogs were so unobtrusive, they just popped up here and there like little elves." Ha! Everyone is really anxious to see your work because they could tell that you were taking interesting shots. One of our friends said, " She was on the ground getting shots of our feet dancing!"
Sorry to go on and on, we just loved our experience with you two and we can not wait to see the rest. You are the consummate professionals and artists, we will recommend you to everyone we know : ) -Liz & Ryan

All of our clients are very similar in that they are all seriously in love, relaxed, and have incredibly special wedding days. Lauren and Aaron's wedding was no exception. There is always something that really stands out though, and I think for their wedding it was the amount of love present; between Lauren and Aaron in particular but also with all the guests. Every single guest was an active participant in the day and so excited to be there.
Their venue Shutters, on the beach in Santa Monica was a perfect match, with it's understated elegance and warmth, for an extraordinary day!!
**There has to be a special mention here to the most rockin' band we have ever heard at a wedding - Masta from deBois Entertainment. They were smoking hot and had the entire crowd up and dancing the whole time!!

We had so much fun at Lauren and Aaron's studio on the Go that we had to post a separate blog entry for it!! For those who don't know what studio on the go is... we set up a dedicated photo spot at the reception and then we get fancy with a nice background and some cool lighting. Then your guest are free to come throughout the night to express themselves and all their true colors!
Thanks to Lauren and Aaron's crowd, you were on fire! And props to Gen from The Ambient Image for helping us out!

Shelley and Adam live in Las Vegas and decided to have a destination wedding on Maui, Hawaii at the beautiful Ritz Carlton. We actually had MTV call us with the possibility of filming their wedding for the True Story: Destination Weddings series... but apparently they didn't have enough drama for that. I definitely agree, the wedding was so lovely and relaxed - Shelley and Adam were just truly enjoying their special day. It was seriously windy, and just about to rain - but the weather held off just until they were dropped off at the reception, then it started to poor! We had a fabulous time, they even had us to shoot some film - we decided to use Ilford SFX and Tri-X.

The first wedding of the season for us back in the US!
Sasha and Alexander met in high school when they were 15 years old and have been together ever since! They currently live in North Carolina but chose to get married in Poughkeepsie, New York. Alex is originally from Poughkeepsie, Sasha is from California, but went to college in Poughkeepsie so the area is special to both of them. The wedding was held at the beautiful Vassar College and the reception was at the Alumni House. What a fantastic place to get married on a balmy July summer's day!

Our last wedding of the season in New Zealand... and it was a perfect Winter's day! Pele and Chris came over from Australia to have their wedding at St. Colombo's Church on beautiful Lake Wanaka. The intimate reception was held at Missy's Kitchen by a cozy fire.
